Golden Retriever History and Origin: The country of origin of the Golden Retriever breed was in United Kingdom during the 1800's. The Golden Retriever hunted by air scent, loved the water, and was trained to pick up, or retrieve,  and return small game or water fowl that had been killed by the hunter. The story of the Golden Retriever began with the rise in the popularity of Retriever type dogs when the when more efficient breech-loading shotguns became quicker to load   and required a fast, intelligent retrieving dog to gently retrieve the game without causing damage but in a speedy fashion. The Golden Retriever became a highly successful Gun Dog (Bird Dog).

Golden Retriever History: Dudley Coutts Marjoribanks, 1st Baron Tweedmouth (29 December 1820 – 4 March 1894), also known as the Laird of Guisachan and Glenaffric, is credited with developing the Golden Retriever at his Guisachan estate in the Scottish Highlands. In 1865 Lord Tweedmouth purchased a yellow retriever he called "Nous" from a litter of Wavy-Coated Retrievers and established a breeding program to develop a new breed of hunting dog. He crossed his rare  'Yellow Retriever' with the local but now-extinct Tweed Water Spaniel called 'Belle' which had a liver-coloured coat. (The word "liver" signified any shade of hair from yellow to brown). Four yellow puppies were produced from this pairing, named Crocus, Cowslip, Primrose and Ada.

The yellow-gold color was extremely unusual, as during this period all Retrievers were typically black. Later crosses were made with the Irish Setter and the and the Flat Coated Retriever. The result of the breeding program was the intelligent, agile retriever that could work that had the stamina to travel for long distances in difficult hilly terrain, across heavy, dense vegetation, and in icy cold water. The clever Golden Retriever was easyto train and had a soft mouth which was perfect for returning game undamaged to the hunter. The attributes of the dog, its kindly expression and its distinctive "double" golden coat held such an immediate appeal that the Golden Retriever became an immediate success and quickly rose in popularity. The Golden Retriever was exported to the United States in 1894 and was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1925. The Golden Retriever Club of America (GRCA) was established in 1938.

Golden Retriever Modern History: The modern history of the Golden Retriever moved on and the breed is now used as a super intelligent, gregarious and responsive family pet and companion.
